Senator Alice-Mary Higgins to run for re-election to Seanad Éireann (NUI Panel)

Independent Senator Alice-Mary Higgins is running for re-election to Seanad Éireann (NUI Panel) as a strong progressive voice for equality, environment, public services and human rights.

Speaking at NUI head office today at the close of nominations, Senator Higgins said “The Seanad can lead debate and shape laws, the choices made there have a real impact on people’s lives. I am seeking re-election as a strong voice on equality, environment, public services and human rights. I offer experience, passion, ideas and a record as a committed and effective advocate, connecting the detail with the bigger picture.”

First elected to the Seanad in 2016 and re-elected in 2020, Alice-Mary has won over 70 changes to law and sponsored and co-sponsored 20 Bills including the Mandate for Nature Bill, Quality Public Procurement Bill, Arms Embargo Bill and Occupied Territories Bill.

Irish Neutrality League Announce Rally for Peace

Cross-party Oireachtas members of the INL today announced details of a major Dublin event to promote peace and neutrality. The ‘Public Rally for Peace: Save the Triple Lock - Save Neutrality' is taking place at 2pm in The Gresham Hotel on May 10th and will include speakers from across the opposition parties and independent Parliamentarians. There will be music and performances from Lisa O’Neil and other artists. This event is part of a campaign of activities nationwide in opposition to government plans to get rid of the triple lock and undermine Ireland's proud tradition of neutrality.

OSCE committee recognize importance of gender and youth perspectives in climate action

Senator Alice-Mary Higgins today spoke in support of a successful resolution calling for OSCE members to incorporate gender and youth dimensions to their climate actions. Senator Higgins was attending the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe in Luxembourg as part of the Irish delegation.

Launching the "Plurality of Existence" Poetry Anthology

On World Refugee Day on Tuesday I had the pleasure of launching the “The Plurality of Existence in the Infinite Expanse of Space and Time”; a collaborative anthology of poetry from the artist, Clodagh Emoe and Crocosmia; a group of writers seeking asylum, many living within the system of direct provision in Ireland.
